On September 11, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), held a bilateral talk with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), who led a delegation to attend the Third Belt and Road High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property and the 13th China Intellectual Property Annual Conference in China.

Shen briefed on the latest developments in China's IP work and highly praised WIPO's active support for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the important role of the IP system in promoting the joint pursuit of the BRI and called for deepening IP cooperation with Belt and Road countries and regions. Shen highlighted the longstanding, practical and friendly cooperation between the CNIPA and the WIPO under the Belt and Road framework, which has yielded significant results. The Third Belt and Road High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property, co-hosted by both parties, is larger in scale, higher in profile, and richer in content of cooperative projects compared to the previous two conferences. This reflects the tremendous appeal and global influence of the BRI. China looks forward to further deepening Belt and Road IP cooperation with the WIPO, enhancing the sharing of experience and personnel exchanges, and jointly promoting the development of IP systems in participating countries, contributing to the construction of global IP ecosystem.

Tang noted that the Chinese government has attached great importance to the development of IP system, and acknowledged China's important contribution to global innovation. He outlined that the joint hosting of the High-Level Conference by WIPO and China highlights the efforts of both sides in advancing international IP cooperation under the Belt and Road framework. The WIPO is willing to continue deepening its collaboration with China, particularly in promoting IP commercialization and utilization, optimizing global IP services and other aspects, to jointly promote the development of global IP ecosystem.

The two sides also exchanged views on topics of mutual interest, such as deepening cooperation on informatization and co-hosting events to mark the 30th anniversary of China's accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and reached extensive consensus.
