On the evening of July 9, during the Sixty-Fifth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), held a bilateral talk with António Campinos, President of the European Patent Office (EPO). The two sides exchanged views on issues including the latest developments in both offices, the implementation of bilateral work plan, cooperation among the IP5 offices, artificial intelligence and patent examination.
Shen noted that over the past nearly 40 years, the pragmatic cooperation between the CNIPA and the EPO has yielded significant results. Under the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership, both offices have maintained close communication at the working level and among experts in various fields, ensuring the smooth progress of cooperation projects. The outcomes of bilateral cooperation are benefiting more and more IP users in China and Europe, contributing positively to technological innovation and socio-economic development in both sides.
Campinos highlighted the rapid development of China's IP sector in recent years, especially the notable achievements in using artificial intelligence to improve the quality and efficiency of patent examination. As the 40th anniversary of the CNIPA-EPO cooperation approaches next year, he hoped that both sides will continue to deepen their collaboration, and promote mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.(Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
