On April 25, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met with the visiting Janusz Wojciechowski, European Agriculture Commissioner in Beijing. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China-EU cooperation concerning geographical indications (GIs).
Shen noted that in recent years, the CNIPA has made significant progress in legislation and protection of GIs. Since the China-EU agreement on GIs protection and cooperation took effect in 2021, the collaboration between China and Europe in the field of GIs has been fruitful and effective. He looked forward to deepening exchanges on the legal systems and practices of GIs in the future, aiming to deepen and solidify China-EU cooperation on GIs and further enhance the protection and administration of GI products on both sides.
Wojciechowski expressed high appreciation for China's efforts in implementing the China-EU agreement on GIs protection and cooperation. He noted that China-EU cooperation on GIs is of great importance to promote the protection of such products on both sides. The European side is eager to actively share experience and practice on the protection of GIs, promote mutual recognition and protection of GI products, and jointly support the economic development of China and Europe.
