The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), Sichuan IP Service Promotion Center (Sichuan Center) and Sichuan University (SCU) recently organized an IP capacity building training course under the China – ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Elite Scholarship program. The course was presented to over 30 IP officials and professionals from the ASEAN member states and China via both online and offline in Chengdu, Sichuan.
Experts and scholars from Chinese government agencies, courts of law, universities lectured on IP commercialization. Through group lecture, case study, online visit and saloon discussion, participants were updated on the latest developments of the Chinese IP system, strategy and legislations. Coordinated by the Sichuan Center, the course visited local companies via live stream, giving the participants a panoramic view of field study experience and receiving prevalent positive feedback from them. Local company representatives and IP attorneys were also invited to have a saloon discussion with the participants. The lectures by experts from the CNIPA, Sichuan Center, Wuhan University presented from different perspectives in the state, local agencies, market entities, research institutes, to the participants on the relevant policies and best practice of China's IP commercialization while the ASEAN representatives actively shared their own experiences and challenges. The new way of teaching has truly given the participants a solid understanding of the latest IP developments in China and an opportunity to interact with their Chinese peers on IP commercialization.
The course was sponsored by the China-ASEAN Elite Scholarship under the flagship fund - China – ASEAN Cooperation Fund, with a view to strengthen cooperation and interaction between China and ASEAN in the IP field at the moment of the 30th anniversary for the establishment of the China-ASEAN dialogue. As one of the results of the 12th China-ASEAN IP heads meeting, the course effectively improves the capacity building and cooperation in IP commercialization between the two partners, facilitates mutual learning in the IP field.
