On November 25, the 12th Heads Meeting Between CNIPA and ASEAN Intellectual Property Office was held via video. Shen Changyu, head of China National Intellectual Property Administration hosted the meeting. Rowel S. Barba, rotating chairman of AWGIPC and director of IPOPHL and persons in charge of ASEAN Secretariat and intellectual property institutions from the ten ASEAN countries attended the meeting.
Shen Changyu said that this year marked the 30th anniversary of the dialogue relationship between China and ASEAN. This year, China and ASEAN officially established the comprehensive strategic partnership. In the field of intellectual property, China National Intellectual Property Administration and intellectual property institutions from ASEAN countries established closed cooperation and carried out practical cooperation in personnel training, intellectual property protection and application, intellectual property monitoring, traditional knowledge and genetic resources, and thus effectively promoted the common development of intellectual property undertakings of all countries. The Chinese government recently published Outline for Building an IPR Powerhouse (2021-2035) and National Plan for IPR Protection and Application for The Fourteenth Five-Year Period. AWGIPC upgraded ASEAN Intellectual Property Action Plan 2016-2025 this year. All have made a new top-level design for the intellectual property undertakings. He believed that the two sides would continue working with each other to expand and deepen China-ASEAN intellectual property cooperation and achieve more results.
Rowel S. Barba said that COVID-19 posed challenges to China and ASEAN countries. Against such background, China and ASEAN countries worked together to rise to challenges, deepen mutual trust and cooperation and strive to promote economic recovery. At present, they are the largest trading partner of each other. Over the years, the cooperation between intellectual property institutions from ASEAN countries and China National Intellectual Property Administration has been increasingly closer. The two sides continued to strengthen exchanges, implemented practical cooperation projects and made fruitful cooperation results. He looked forward to sustaining the momentum of a good cooperative relationship with China National Intellectual Property Administration and constantly increasing the cooperative level.
At the meeting, the participants reviewed and summarized the implementation of the work plan of 2020-2021 China-ASEAN intellectual property cooperation, discussed and adopted 2021-2022 work plans.
