Rrecently，CNIPA Commissioner Shen Changyu had a videoconference with WIPO's outgoing Director General Francis Gurry.
Dr. Shen highly appreciated Mr. Gurry's great contributions to the development of WIPO and global IP systems over the past 12 years and expressed sincere thanks for his support for China's IP cause. Shen said that, since Mr. Gurry took office as WIPO's director general, both sides have seen expanded cooperation fields and levels with fruitful achievements. The Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances, adopted by the Beijing Diplomatic Conference of WIPO in 2012, has already come into effect this year. The WIPO Office in China opened in Beijing in 2014. In addition, WIPO has also worked with relevant China authorities in holding two sessions of the High-level Conference on Intellectual Property for Countries along the "Belt and Road". Also, China has become a major user of the global IP service systems managed by WIPO. He hoped that Mr. Gurry could continue to pay attention to and support China's IP work and offer valuable advice.
Mr. Gurry appreciated CNIPA and Commissioner Shen's strong support for WIPO and him over the years, and spoke highly of the fruitful cooperation between WIPO and China. He has witnessed the rapid development of China's IP cause during his term of office. Today, China is leading the world in a number of IP indicators and has made important contributions to improving global IP systems. And China has carried out a series of pragmatic international exchanges and cooperation under the framework of WIPO. All these "China stories" are worth spreading worldwide, especially today, when the global community really needs to know what's going on. He hoped to maintain close contact with China in the future and consolidate their traditional friendship. (Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
