The contracting parties to the Madrid Agreement refer to countries that have acceded to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. Currently, there are no exclusive contracting parties to the Madrid Agreement.
The contracting parties to the Madrid Protocol refer to countries or intergovernmental organizations that have acceded to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks.
The exclusive contracting parties to the Madrid Protocol refer to countries or intergovernmental organizations that have acceded only to the Madrid Protocol but not to the Madrid Agreement.
Since September 1, 2008, the Madrid Protocol shall apply to countries within the Madrid Union that are both contracting parties to the Madrid Agreement and contracting parties to the Madrid Protocol.
