On September 29, Chen Fuli, Secretary of the Communist Party of China Leadership Group of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met with a delegation led by António Campinos, President of the European Patent Office (EPO), in Beijing.
Chen said that CNIPA and the EPO have established a comprehensive strategic partnership. Over the years, the two offices have engaged in fruitful cooperation in high-level exchanges, patent examination and administration, automation, data exchange, and personnel training. This cooperation has deepened mutual understanding and strengthened consensus in the field of intellectual property (IP), while providing IP users in China and Europe with high-quality, convenient services. He expressed the hope that the two offices would continue to deepen mutual trust and bring their cooperation to a closer stage, delivering further results that would harness the power of IP to support economic and trade ties, innovation, and cultural development between China and Europe.
Campinos spoke highly of China's achievements in IP development. He said that the EPO looks forward to further broadening the scope of cooperation with CNIPA, enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation, and strengthening exchanges and cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence and IP finance, thereby playing a greater role in serving both innovators and promoting innovative cooperation between China and Europe.
Following the meeting, the two offices signed a data exchange agreement.
