On July 11, the winners of the 2025 World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Global Awards were announced in Geneva, Switzerland. China, delivered an impressive performance in this year's WIPO Global Awards. Six Chinese enterprises were selected into the Top 30 finalists for their innovation strength and achievements in intellectual property (IP) protection across sectors such as health, environment, agrifood, creative industries, and ICT, with Unitree Robotics honored with the WIPO Global Awards, showcasing China's strong competitiveness and innovation capacity in the IP field. The Bilingual Weekly talks with representatives from the six Chinese enterprises, inviting them to share their advanced practices and achievements in leveraging IP to drive innovation, expand markets, and promote global sustainable development.

Wang Xinyi

Head of Overseas Business, Hangzhou Yushu Technology Co., Ltd.

Q1: What are your company's core technology areas?

Wang: Unitree Robotics focuses on the entire value chain of legged robot technologies, with core capabilities in the independent development of key components such as high-energy-density joint motors, gear reducers, and controllers, as well as in the innovation of high-performance perception and motion control algorithms. Our company has built a comprehensive robotic manufacturing system. Our legged robot products are now widely deployed in inspection, firefighting, education, and consumer applications.

Q2: What advanced experience has your company gained in IP management?

Wang: Unitree Robotics has consistently followed a steadfast path of early planning, a strong focus on quality, and globalization—leveraging IP to safeguard technological innovation and market growth. Our company has placed great emphasis on technological innovation and independent R&D, and currently holds nearly 200 granted patents worldwide. Additionally, Unitree Robotics is actively executing a global layout with approximately 50 international patent applications filed through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) system, ensuring synchronized technology protection and international product expansion.

Li Jianguo

Chairman and General Manager, Shanghai Bangbang Robotics Co., Ltd.

Q1: In terms of technological deployment, which core areas is your company currently focusing on?

Li: Shanghai Bangbang Robotics Co., Ltd. is deeply engaged in the field of rehabilitation aids, intelligent wheelchairs, and mobility solutions. Our core products — such as foldable wheelchairs and foldable electric wheelchairs — feature innovative folding mechanisms, revolutionary space-saving designs, and breakthroughs in ergonomics, showcasing the advancement and creativity of Chinese intelligent manufacturing in the accessible mobility sector.

Q2: How does your company continuously optimize its IP management system?

Li: In terms of IP management and planning, we always align our strategy with the developmental stage of a startup. Guided by the principles of "user-first, stage-appropriate, precision-focused, and tiered deployment," we have shown a IP shield for protecting innovations to users, while balancing cost and return, in line with our growth trajectory and actual needs. As of June 2025, we had got a total of 145 granted patents and 92 registered trademarks.

Pan Yingxia

Project Manager, Carbon ONE New Energy Group Co., Ltd.

Q1: Could you please introduce the main technology areas your company is involved in?

Pan: Carbon ONE New Energy Group Co., Ltd. focuses on the R&D and production of lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and solid-state battery anode materials, as well as the development of next-generation materials. Our company is dedicated to providing high-performance, low-carbon critical material solutions for global transformation in the new energy sector.

Q2: What practices has your company developed around IP strategy?

Pan: Carbon ONE places high importance on IP work, regarding IP management as one of our core strategies. Our company also integrates IP management into corporate culture, decision-making processes, and daily operations, establishing detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for IP management. We have also executed a comprehensive, systematic global patent strategy around our core technologies, creating a protective network, expanding international markets, and maximizing commercial value. Currently, we have established a comprehensive IP portfolio globally, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights.

Jiang Xianzhi

CEO, Moon (Guangzhou) Biotech Co., Ltd.

Q1: What are the key technology areas your company is focusing on?

Jiang: Moon (Guangzhou) Biotech Co., Ltd. focuses its core business on four major sectors: bio-agriculture, food proteins, biopharmaceuticals, and health and wellness. We have built the world's largest commercial microbial strain library, with more than 310,000 preserved strains, along with a comprehensive microbial database and sharing network.

Q2: What successful experiences and practices has your company gained in advancing IP management?

Jiang: To fully protect our products and maintain market competitiveness, MoonBiotech has established a comprehensive IP protection system based on a three-pronged strategy: core technology products, core markets, and key defensive layouts. In addition, we leverage the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) to accelerate patent examination and authorization for our products and technologies in foreign markets. As of now, our company and its subsidiaries have been granted a total of 76 patents and have submitted 27 international patent applications through the PCT system. We also holds 381 registered trademarks, including 14 in countries and regions such as Europe, the United States, and Brazil. Also, we have registered 433 copyrights.

Li Na

Deputy General Manager, Chengdu Chenghua Butterflies Huatian Culture and Tourism Development Co., Ltd.

Q1: What are your company's core business areas?

Li:Chengdu Chenghua Butterflies Huatian Culture and Tourism Development Co., Ltd. is rooted in the original production of musicals. We have expanded into related industries including cultural tourism, entertainment, and education, creating a new ecosystem for immersive experiences through live performances, exhibitions, and cultural interactions, elevating Chinese aesthetics on the global stage.

Q2: Your original musical "PANDA" is making its way to the international stage. Could you introduce how IP protection has supported its international expansion and promoted the dissemination of Chinese culture?

Li:In the IP development process of the musical "PANDA, " we have established a trinity strategic system. In terms of cultural connotation exploration, we have deeply analyzed the Eastern philosophical essence of the "PANDA," transforming elements such as "harmonious coexistence" and Tai Chi into unique visual symbols and narrative language. In terms of IP protection, we have built a comprehensive IP protection matrix centered on the musical's core content, completing 41 registered copyrights and 4 registered trademarks, thereby achieving systematic protection of the IP value. In terms of commercialization path, we have creatively developed a "content+context+channels" multidimensional operating model.

Cheng Yuwei

CTO&Co-founder, Shaanxi ORCA Electronic Technology Co., Ltd.

Q1: What are the main technology areas your company focuses its core business on?

Cheng: Founded in 2017, Shaanxi ORCA Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. operates under the brand name "ORCAUBOAT." We have developed a product matrix based on the model of "one core and two wings": the core being its independently developed Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS), and the two wings comprising two product lines—one targeting the professional market with unmanned surface vessels and surface service robots, and the other targeting the consumer market with intelligent recreational boats and yachts.

Q2: What experiences can your company share in the area of IP management?

Cheng: ORCAUBOAT has established a comprehensive IP management system, placing a strong emphasis particularly on the cultivation of high-value patents, and has been recognized as a "National Intellectual Property Advantage Enterprise." As of the end of June, our company had held 99 patents, including 56 invention patents. These patents cover diverse domains including surface unmanned driving technology, surface cleaning robotics, and surface intelligent manned robots. To accelerate trademark and brand globalization, we have registered trademarks in major overseas markets such as Southeast Asia and Europe, while promoting a unified global brand identity.
