On April 25, as the 25th World Intellectual Property Day approached, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) held its Open Day event for the 20th consecutive year. CNIPA Commissioner Shen Changyu attended and delivered a speech, while Deputy Commissioner Hu Wenhui presided over the main event.
Shen introduced the CNIPA's basic operations in his speech. He noted that over the past year, the CNIPA has thoroughly implemented President Xi Jinping's important instructions on intellectual property (IP) work, followed the decisions and deployments of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, and achieved significant progress in the field of IP. There has been a marked improvement in the quantity and quality of IP creation, stricter protection, accelerated benefits from IP application, and deeper international cooperation. The number of valid domestic invention patents reached 4.756 million, and the number of valid registered trademarks hit 47.62 million. Public satisfaction with IP protection rose to 82.36 points, setting a new record. For the first time, a comprehensive review and value analysis of 1.349 million existing patents from over 2,700 universities and research institutions across the country were completed, with precise connections established with 450,000 enterprises. In the 2024 Global Innovation Index report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization, China's ranking rose to 11th, with 26 of the world's top 100 technology clusters from China, maintaining the top spot for two consecutive years. He hoped that the CNIPA would deepen public understanding of the progress of China's IP system, raise their awareness of respecting and protecting IP, foster a world-class IP cultural environment, and better support Chinese modernization through the Open Day event.
At the event, CNIPA's relevant departments released typical cases of administrative IP protection, top ten cases and outstanding cases of IP information services, top ten cases of patent reexamination and invalidation, and typical cases of trademark opposition and review for 2024. 15 regional venues across the country were connected via video links. Jiao Jiao, Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel of Kuaishou Technology, gave a speech as a guest representative.
Representatives from the Beijing Haidian District Committee of China Democratic League, the Xicheng District Administration for Market Regulation, innovators, service agencies, universities, and media attended the event. During the event, representatives visited the reception hall, trial courts, examination departments, the IP culture exhibition hall, and the themed exhibition on "New Progress and Achievements in Building a Country Strong on IP," and participated in the interactive activities. Each regional venue hosted a variety of exciting and engaging Open Day activities.(Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
