Recently, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met in Beijing with Jens Eskelund, President of the European Union (EU) Chamber of Commerce in China, and company representatives.
Shen noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. Leaders on both sides have reached important consensus on deepening China-EU relations, providing strategic guidance for further cooperation. He emphasized that the Chinese government attaches great importance to intellectual property (IP) protection, and that the CNIPA has consistently upheld the principle of equal treatment and protection for IP of both domestic and foreign enterprises. He stressed that China remains committed to fostering a fair and competitive market environment for enterprises and innovators from all countries, including those from the EU. Looking ahead, the CNIPA will continue to maintain engagement with foreign enterprises with an open and positive attitude, and further optimize services, providing stronger support for international innovation cooperation and economic and trade exchanges.
Eskelund said that in recent years, China has made remarkable progress in IP protection, with a more mature protection system and a continuously improving business environment, which has effectively spurred business innovation. The EU Chamber of Commerce in China stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China and will continue to encourage its member companies to remain confident, deepen their presence in China, and increase investment in China.
