China Houses 42 ICH on UNESCO List

China now has a total of 42 intangible cultural heritage after Tai Chi and the Wangchuan Ceremony were inscribed to the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, ranking the first place in the world, according to Seventh Press on China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo.

Over the past few years, China has taken various measures to give vigor and fashion to intangible cultural heritage, and has made painstaking efforts to preserve and inherit the intangible cultural heritage, hoping to help boost the local economic growth.  Up to date, the country has listed 1,557 national-level projects of intangible cultural heritage. As of June 2022, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has supported the establishment of more than 2,500 intangible cultural heritage workshops, over 1,400 intangible cultural heritage workshops have been established in poverty-stricken areas in a bid to help lift people out of poverty.
