The Patent Reexamination and Invalidation Department participated in the 2021 IP5 Trial and Appeal Boards High-level Meeting
Recently, the 2021 IP5 Trial and Appeal Boards High-level Meeting has been held through video conferencing.Chen Wei, Director-General of the Reexamination and Invalidation Department of the Patent Office (PRD) CNIPA, attended the meeting and Liu Ming,Deputy-Director-General, gave a speech. Besides, other relevant personnel of International Department and PRD of CNIPAalso took part in.
The conference was hosted by the JPO and presided overby Mr. KATSURA Masanori, Director-General, Trial and Appeal Department (TAD) JPO. Carl Josefsson, President of Boards of Appeal EPO, Lee Jae-woo, President of the Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (IPTAB) KIPO, Scott R. Boalick, Chief Administrative Patent Judge of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) USPTO respectively led a delegation to the meeting. Bonvallet Christine, Director of PCT International Cooperation Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and MIN Eun Joo, Director of WIPO Judicial Institute, participated as observers.
Amidtheconference, delegatesfrom five parties respectively presentedthe new progress of patent reexamination and invalidation. Among them, WIPO delegate introduced its Lex-Judgement Database, consisting of IP laws and regulations, WIPO-administered treaties and IP‑related treaties, and IP judgments. Future cooperation and exchanges were also discussed.
All the delegates expected closer cooperation and more understanding among the five parties to provide global intellectual property users with more quality services. This meeting laid a sound foundation for further cooperation and exchanges among the five parties.
