On December 5, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met in Beijing with a delegation led by Annie Genevard, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty of the French Republic.
Shen noted that on December 4, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, who was on a state visit to China, jointly charting the course for the development of China-France relations under the new circumstances. The strategic guidance by the two heads of state has pointed the way forward for cooperation between China and France in the field of intellectual property (IP). Since the renewal of the protocol for cooperation on agriculture and food geographical indications (GIs) between China and France last year, the two sides have maintained close coordination, jointly advanced related work, and achieved landmark results. Going forward, China stands ready to work with France to fully implement the important outcomes of the meeting between the two heads of state, further deepen exchanges and cooperation in the field of GIs, and better benefit the peoples of both countries.
Genevard stated that the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty has attached great importance to cooperation with the CNIPA in the field of GIs. The two sides share broad consensus on strengthening the protection of GI products. In recent years, bilateral cooperation has been pragmatic and fruitful, and France looks forward to elevating cooperation with China to new heights in the future.
During the meeting, the two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on the latest developments in their respective GI protection efforts, the improvement of GI systems, and future cooperation. Relevant officials from both sides were present at the meeting.(Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
