From October 23 to 24, the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Industrial Design 5 Forum (ID5) was held both online and offline, hosted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as the rotating chair.
Participants included Lu Pengqi, Deputy Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA); Sandris Laganovskis, Director of the Cooperation and Partnerships Department of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO); Hiroke Kitamura, Director of the Patent and Design Examination Department of the Japan Patent Office (JPO); Jeong Buyong, Deputy Manager of the Design Examination Policy Division of the Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP); Mary Critharis, Acting Chief Policy Officer and Director for International Affairs of the USPTO; and Grégoire Bisson, Director of International Designs Registry at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
In his opening remarks, Lu emphasized that design plays an important role in promoting economic development across countries. The ID5 cooperation mechanism also serves as a vital platform for coordinating the development of industrial design systems among the ID5 offices and guiding global trends in industrial design protection.
