Beijing Hosts Various Activities to Mark This Year's National IP Publicity Week

On April 23, Beijing hosted the main event marking this year's National IP Publicity Week. State Councilor Wang Yong attended and gave an important speech.

Shen Changyu, Director of the Organizing Committee of the event and Commissioner of CNIPA, presided over the event and introduced the schedule of the Publicity Week. Leaders of the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Justice, National Forestry and Grassland Administration, as well as those from relevant departments and local authorities, were present.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang delivered in his video message the congratulations on the success of the National IP Publicity Week in China and spoke highly of the outstanding achievements China has made in promoting the innovative development of SMEs through the effective application of the IP system. He also expounded on the theme "IP & SMEs: Taking Your Ideas to Market" of this year's World Intellectual Property Day. WIPO will continue to provide corresponding support for global SMEs and facilitate economic recovery and sustainable development, he said.

This year marks the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and this year's National IP Publicity Week also features more colorful content and highlights. CNIPA and the Copyright Administration will jointly hold a press conference at the State Council Information Office (SCIO) about implementing the Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) and accelerating the building of China's strength in IP; the Copyright Administration will hold the National Conference on Copyright Protection and Development in Digital Environment; the Supreme People's Court released the People's Court Intellectual Property Judicial Protection Plan (2021-2025) and top 10 IP-related cases and 50 typical cases; the Supreme People's Procuratorate will launch the Open Day focusing on "enhancing intellectual property juridical protection and serving the building of China into an innovative country"; the Ministry of Education popularized typical experience in high-quality IP development in universities and colleges; the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology launched a forum on hotspots of business secrets and the new development pattern; the Ministry of Public Security launched campaigns nationwide to publicize IP-related rule of law; the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs launched a symposium on enhancing IP protection in seed industry; the General Administration of Customs will release the 2020 China Customs Protection of Intellectual Property Rights and typical cases; the State Administration for Market Regulation will release the Report on the Latest Development in IPR Protection and Business Environment in China (2020); the National Forestry and Grassland Administration will release the Yearbook of China's Forestry and Grassland Intellectual Property and sign the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between China and Europe on the Protection of New Plant Varieties; CNIPA launched an online salon on innovation and high-quality IP development, and will organize Open Day events in 10 cities and 11 places nationwide and release the white paper of 2020 Intellectual Property Rights Protection in China; China Association for Science and Technology will organize relevant activities on IP publicity, etc.

At the event, deputy chief designer Gong Wenbin of the third-generation Beidou satellites proposed the initiative for comprehensively enhancing IP protection to stimulate social innovation and speed up paces to realize the country's self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology. Another highlight during the event was an exhibition of the achievements China has made in IP cause during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.
