Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission announced the Notice on Carrying Out National Innovative City Pilot Project, an endeavor to increase pilot cities, improving sustainable development, accelerating economic and social development through innovation, further boosting national innovative city pilot project.

Under the notice, to set up innovative cities requires improvement in enhancing independent innovation, and should be motivated by mechanism innovation. Efforts should be made to break through the creation of favorable environment. An innovation should be established, recourse is integrated to improve the efficiency and to explore regional development model. A number of innovative cities with outstanding characteristics and of complementarity should be fostered, thus taking shape of growth points to enhance national comprehensive strength and the international competitiveness.
