Recently, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine , Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) issued the notice on carrying out the Outline of National IPR Strategy to further strengthen the protection on geographical indication (GI) products and intensify IPR law enforcement.

The Outline requires to build and perfect technology standard system of geographical indications as well as quality guarantee system and checkup system; launch census on GI resources; develop GI products; and transform the natural and cultural resources with local characteristics to actual productivity.  In order to meet the requirements of the Outline, AQSIQ called for tightening construction for GI protection system, conducting GI census, and maintaining the quality characteristic of GI products.

According to the notice, local quality supervision and inspection departments should make concerted effort with related departments and industrial associations to initiate special campaign against fake and imitated GI products and punish the behavior legally using and counterfeiting the name of GI products.
