WIPO Convenes the 4th Vifdeo Conference, CNIPA Commissioner Shen Changyu Attends and Makes a Speech

 

On May 19 (Beijing time), WIPO held the 4th video conference to discuss IP-related policies of various countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic, remedy measures for delay of time limits and how to promote WIPO's work via teleconferencing. CNIPA Commissioner Shen Changyu attended and made a speech.

Shen Changyu highly appreciated the measures taken and positive progress made by WIPO amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He pointed out that coordinated by WIPO, various member countries communicate with each other well, and various topics have seen positive progress since the past several video conferences. WIPO released the policy tracker on its official website at the beginning of May to provide global users with access to COVID-19-related policies of IP agencies of various countries. CNIPA has always supported the work of WIPO amid the pandemic and will maintain exchange and cooperation with WIPO. Shen Changyu also expressed his point of view on whether it is needed to amend relevant rules in global IP service systems in order to endow the WIPO Director General with general power in case of emergencies, the applicability and improvement of the priority system under the framework of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property in case of emergencies, as well as how to promote WIPO's work via teleconferencing. He said that China is willing to work with other member countries to cope with challenges brought about by the pandemic to international IP service systems, in order to guarantee the orderly and efficient operation of various service systems and benefit more innovators.

The video conference was presided over by WIPO Director General Mr. Francis Gurry and attended by representatives of IP agencies from China, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK, the US and other countries, as well as those from EUIPO and EPO. (Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
