On April 30, China Standard Time, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) convened the third video conference on the filing of international registration applications of patent and trademark of global IP institutions during the pandemic, as well as WIPO's measures and suggestions for disease control. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), addressed the conference.

He released CNIPA's data on the filing of international registration applications of patent and trademark in the first three months of 2020, and elaborated his principled stand on WIPO's policies and suggestions. He pointed out that while the international community is united to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, intellectual property institutions of all countries should also play their active roles. CNIPA will continue to work with WIPO and its member countries to ensure the orderly operation of the Global IP Service System and provide quality services to innovators and markets from across the globe. He said that CNIPA supports in principle WIPO's proposal to amend the regulations of the Global IP Service System to entitle the WIPO Director-General general powers in case of emergency. It is a supplement and improvement to the existing regulations, which will provide universal remedy policies for people in the specific countries and regions undergoing emergencies, and will also help to improve the efficiency of IP examination for institutions.

The video conference was chaired by WIPO Director-General Francis Gurry.
