China and Iceland Signing MOU on IP Cooperation

 

October 17 (local time), Liu Junchen, Member of the CPC Leading Group of the State Administration for Market Regulation of China, Secretary of CPC Leading Group and Deputy Commissioner of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), led a delegation and visited the Ministry of Industries and Innovation of Iceland (MII), and met with Minister Þórdís Gylfadóttir of MII. The two sides made in-depth exchanges on latest development of IP in China and Iceland, Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH), trademark examination and future bilateral cooperation, and signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between China National Intellectual Property Administration and Ministry of Industries and Innovation of Iceland (MII) . The two sides also reached a consensus on strengthening cooperation in the field of consumer protection.

Liu Junchen briefed to MII on the institutional reform of Chinese government and the latest development of China’s IP work. He remarked that China and Iceland have built good basis for IP cooperation, and the newly signed MOU further expand the scope of cooperation from patent to the whole IP field including trademark; he believed it would surely play an active role in promoting communication and cooperation between CNIPA and MII; hopefully the two sides may take this opportunity to promote practical cooperation in aspects including trademark registration, information exchange, PPH and staff exchange.

Þórdís Gylfadóttir welcomed the visit of the delegation, and hoped that the signing of the MOU may further promote the cooperation between China and Iceland in the IP field and facilitate bilateral economic and trade exchanges. Director General Borghildur Erlingsdóttir of the Icelandic Patent Office attended the meeting.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the Innovation Center Iceland and the Iceland branch of Huawei, a Chinese enterprise, and fully listened to opinions and shared experiences on IP transformation and application and IP serving development of enterprises.  (Translated from CNIPA Website Chinese Version)
