In the morning of September 7, 2018, Commissioner Shen Changyu of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) led a delegation to visit Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, during which he had in-depth exchanges of view with Director General Thosapone Dansuputra of DIP on the latest development of IP in China and Thailand, Chinese IP institutional reform and implementation of China-Thailand cooperation projects, and reached an agreement with Thosapone Dansuputra to upgrade China-Thailand IP cooperation agreement as early as possible.

Shen Changyu remarked that CNIPA enjoys long-standing and well-established cooperation and friendship with the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand as long as more than two decades by now. In 1995, Chinese Patent Office, the predecessor of CNIPA, already signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand. Over the years, through joint efforts of both sides, CNIPA and the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand have maintained friendly and fruitful cooperation under the bilateral framework as well as the China-ASEAN framework, and have forged a profound friendship. Especially in recent years, Thailand actively attended and played positive and constructive role in important activities held by CNIPA, including the High Level Conference on Intellectual Property for Countries along the “Belt and Road”, which is appreciated by CNIPA. At present, CNIPA is actively promoting IP institutional reform; hopefully on the basis of the reform, CNIPA and the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand may accelerate to upgrade the bilateral cooperation agreement, expand fields of cooperation, further deepen cooperation in fields of patent, trademark and geographical indication, ceaselessly enhance the level of bilateral practical cooperation, and promote the mutual development of IP in China and Thailand.

Thosapone Dansuputra expressed that Thailand and China have maintained prolonged and friendly cooperation in the IP field; Thailand admires achievements of IP development in China, and hopes to draw lesson from China’s experience. Chinese IP institutional reform brings in a more centralized management of IP, and lays the foundation for further expansion of cooperation fields between China and Thailand. Thailand also hopes to upgrade China-Thailand IP cooperation agreement as early as possible, continue to deepen bilateral cooperation, and better serve the public and IP users of China and Thailand.
