Commissioner Shen Holds Talk with Indonesian Counterpart

SIPO Commissioner Shen Changyu conducted an in-depth discussion on strengthening bilateral cooperation with Freddy Harris, Director General of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP), Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia on April 20.

Shen extended his warmest welcome to Harris' participation in the 2018 China High-Level Forum on IP Protection, and briefed him on the latest developments in SIPO's structural changes. Shen indicated that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the establishment of overall strategic partnership between China and Indonesia. Under the MoU on IP protection signed in 2013, the two sides interacted with each other in IP cooperation along the Belt and Road Initiative and under the cooperation framework of China-ASEAN, and progress was made in high-level communication, IP examination and determination, training and human resources development. He wished to elevate such cooperation to a new stage by further expanding cooperation and stepping up communication and exchange.

Harris noted that China is playing a vital role in global IP system and many of its experiences are worth learning. Indonesia takes seriously on the protection of invention, industrial design, trademark registration and GIs. He became more informed after discussions with Chinese professionals during the forum, and wished to expand collaboration and deliver benefits to businesses and IP users of both sides. 

The two sides also shared comments on promotion of quality and efficiency in examination with the application of artificial intelligence and big data.
