Recently, at the invitation of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) led a delegation to visit Spain, held talks with Antonio Campinos, President of EUIPO, and signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Cooperation between the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China and the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
Shen Changyu said as a strategic partner, SIPO attaches great importance to the cooperation with EUIPO. In recent years, the two sides have made progress in cooperation, facilitated more frequent interactions and gained achievements in cooperation fields such as legal policy, data exchange, informatization tool and personnel training. In addition, with the China-EU Cooperation on Intellectual Property and under the ID5, the two offices have kept close communication and coordination. He hoped that the two sides would further deepen their mutually beneficial cooperation with higher quality on a higher level, so as to encourage and protect innovation and bring more benefits to innovation entities and intellectual property users in both China and Europe.
Campinos agreed with Shen Changyu on deepening cooperation and expanding cooperation fields between the two sides in the future. He hoped that, within the strategic partnership, the two offices would conduct more in-depth cooperation of a higher level in a wider range to promote the exchange and cooperation between China and Europe in the fields such as economy, innovation and science and technology.
After the talks, the two sides signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding on strategic cooperation. During the stay in Spain, at the invitation of the University of Alicante, Shen Changyu paid a visit to the university and met with the Vice President Juan Llopis, discussing issues like personnel training and professional education of intellectual property.
