SIPO-JPO Heads Meeting Held in Hangzhou

Commissioner Shen Changyu of the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) met Commissioner Naoko Munakata of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) at the 24th meeting between the heads of the two offices in Hangzhou on November 16.

Shen highly appreciated the long tradition of IP cooperation between SIPO and JPO, which is one of the first partners with SIPO in cooperation. There would be of great significance to hold this meeting noting the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations entering its 45th year. Strengthening cooperation and commutation between SIPO and JPO met the common interests of IP users in China and Japan as well as the demand for communication in technology, economy and culture fields between the two countries. According to Shen, SIPO will deepen the cooperation with JPO in the IP field following the principle of mutual benefits and win-win results.

Munakata expressed the willingness of JPO to strengthen the cooperation to provide more efficient and convenient services for IP users of the two countries by expanding cooperation areas, deepening cooperation contents, and exchanging experiences in the IP field. She believed that the two offices would score more fruitful achievements.

Several topics including IP policies, patent examiners exchange, patent examination, patent classification, industrial design, automation, patent reexamination and professional training were discussed at the meeting.

After the meeting, Shen and Munakata signed the Memorandum of the 24th SIPO-JPO Heads Meeting of the Commissioners.
