On February 27, the Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development Seminar, co-sponsored by SIPO and WIPO and organized by the Intellectual Property Office of Shaanxi, was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.
SIPO Deputy Commissioner He Zhimin, Deputy Governor of Shaanxi Province Lu Zhiyuan, and Representative of the WIPO Director General on the UN Sustainable Development Goals Ridha Bouabid attended and addressed the seminar. Nearly 100 representatives from businesses, agencies, research institutes, colleges and universities, and intellectual property authorities attended the seminar.
In his speech, He Zhimin said that in 2015, the UN Sustainable Development Summit adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which designated the direction for the development of countries and international cooperation during the next 15 years. The five concepts proposed by the 2030 Agenda–people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership–are compatible with China's five new developments ideas–innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development, which will guide the overall process of China's implementation of the 2030 Agenda. In the field of intellectual property, the Chinese government is also dedicated to implementing the 2030 Agenda. By thoroughly carrying out the National Intellectual Property Strategy and the Innovation-Driven Development Strategy, vigorously building China into a strong intellectual property country,and deepening the reform of intellectual property management, we will make China an innovation-driven country.
At the seminar, WIPO representatives briefed the audience on WIPO's implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the general information about the WIPO GREEN platform. Experts and representatives from SIPO, the Intellectual Property Office of Shaanxi, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the International Association For The Protection Of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), Shaanxi Automobile Group Co., Ltd., among others, made speeches and carried out in-depth discussions on issues such as the unique role of intellectual property in implementing the 2030 Agenda and pursuing green development, businesses' achievements and their needs of green sustainable technologies in the creation, protection, and utilization of intellectual property.
