Director Tian Lipu meets Serge Janssens, President of EU Chamber of Commerce and his party

 

On the morning of November 28, Tian Lipu, Director of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) met Serge Janssens, President of the EU Chamber of Commerce and his party.  At the outset, Tian briefed the guests in detail the process of formulating China's Patent Law and its amendment.  Then both parties carried out candid and in-depth exchanges on the related issues pertaining to the 3rd amendment to China's Patent Law.  President Janssens submitted the "Recommendations of EU Enterprises in China for 2006-2007" issued by the EU Chamber of Commerce in China.  Director Tian expressed his welcome to the visiting group.  He pointed out that SIPO has conducted long-term cooperation with EU countries and EU enterprises and the number of patent applications from the EU countries occupy a very big proportion of foreign applications in China.  The State Intellectual Property Office hopes that more EU enterprises will come to China for patent application.

President Janssens expressed his thanks to Director Tian for warmly receiving him and his party.  He showed his appreciation for the achievement China has made in intellectual property work and the country's attitude in amending China's Patent Law.  Then, he introduced to the SIPO leadership the work of EU Chamber of Commerce in China.  Douglas Clark, Chairman of the Shanghai Working Group of Intellectual Property of the EU Chamber of Commerce put forward relevant recommendations to the 3rd amendment draft of China's Patent Law.

Both sides conducted negotiations on the relevant issues involving protection of drugs contained in the amendment to China's Patent Law.  Tian pointed out that "opinions have been sought from many countries for the 3rd amendment to China's Patent Law and that the work is done from a professional perspective, and in an opening and transparent manner.  We will further solict opinions from international organizations including EU." Yun Xintian, Director of the Law and Treaty Department, SIPO also exchanged opinions with the representatives of the EU on the amendment to specific clauses contained in China's Patent Law.

Yun Xintian, Director of the Law and Treaty Department, Lu Yi, Deputy Inspector of the Coordination Management Department, Liu Jian and Li Jin Chief and Deputy Chief respectively of the European Division of International Cooperation Department, SIPO were present at the meeting.
