China and the United States held their first strategic economic dialogue on Dec. 14 and 15 in Beijing. Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and US Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson, both special representatives of the two heads of states, co-chaired the dialogue.

 

"China will insist on reform and open policy, which is one of the most important characteristics of modern China, and China will continue to enforce IPR protection with a responsible attitude," said Mdm. Wu in her opening speech at the dialogue. "Reform and open policy is one of the fundamental policies of China, and China has deeply merged into the world economy, As the third largest trade country and the third largest importer and exporter in the whole world, China has become part of global economic supplying ring, China will continue to complete its legal system concerning opening up, regulating its market mechanism on the base of international practice and routine, finishing its credit system, completing its market administration system, and trying its best to create a fair market environment, so as to set up a more transparent foreign trade mechanism,"Wu added.

 

Wu also expressed China's attitude to IPR protection by saying that IPR protection is the need of China's economic development so China will continue enforce its IPR protection with a responsible attitude. "China will continue to fulfill its responsibility in IPR protection in the international system, to closely cooperate with international organizations and other countries so as to promote the establishment of PR protection system and improve business environment in China,"Wu said, "China will sustain mutual trade mechanism, and has seriously adhered to its commitment to WTO, and become the most open developing country now."

 

"China will continue keep balance in its international trade, and is highly aware of its surplus so that China has expanded its import to cut down surplus," she said. "As a member of international community, China can not develop itself without the world, and the whole world's prosperity also needs China. China insists on peaceful development, and China's development is peaceful, open, cooperative and harmonious. To develop itself with the help of whole world and to promote world peace with its own development is the reason and purpose that China adopts peaceful development road, and China has been playing a conductive role in the international affairs, has no intention to challenge the existed international order, but hope to improve international political and economic order with a method of reform. Chinese people are willing to promote world peace and prosperity together with peoples of whole world." Wu said.
