By the end of 2006 applications for invention patent came to a total of 1,089,521 in China, breaking the first height of one million.
　
Statistics as of December 31, 2006 shows that the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) had accepted 3,334,374 applications for three categories of patent, among them 2,727,626 are domestic，and 606,748 external, accounting for 81.8% and 18.2% respectively. In terms of invention, application and appearance design, the numbers are 1,089,521, 1,289,868 and 954,985, making up 32.7%, 38.9% and 28.6%, respectively.
