On March 7, Tian lipu, the commissioner of SIPO, met with the visiting Li Xiansheng, the Mayor of Wuhan, for discussing intellectual property work in Wuhan. Dong Hongwei, the director of Wuhan IP Bureau, Dong Xin, the deputy director as well as other officials from Wuhan government. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Qin, the deputy director general of the SIPO.

 

Mr. Tian, first of all, expressed his warm welcome to his guests, and also gave his heartfelt gratitude over the attentions and devotions by Wuhan government in IP work. The commissioner hoped the meeting would further promote the economic and social development of Wuhan or even the entire Hubei Province under a good IP system. 

 

Mr. Dong expressed his thanks for the great supports from the SIPO over years to the development Wuhan's IP work, and then introduced the progress of Wuhan's IP work. According to the mayor, the patent application reached 8,125 in 2006, an 30% increase than the same period of 2005, among them more than 3,400 were from enterprises, doubled the figure of the year before. The capability of self-innovation for the key enterprises and development zones in Wuhan and IPR protection has been greatly improved. The turnovers of patent transaction and exhibitions have increased year by year with all kinds of IP publicity work and trainings also been in progress. Dong pointed out the city government would strictly implement the IP strategy so as to make Wuhan to be a model city in IPR protection, support the enterprises to enforce innovative capabilities and will punish any illegal activities so as to purify the market environment.

 

Li Xiansheng indicated the IPR protection forum held in 2006 in the Wuhan Optical Valley couldn't have been successful without the care and guide by the SIPO, also he promised that SIPO would continue to pay attention to the Wuhan's IP development.

 

Mr. Tian said that IPR protection system had become one of necessary conditions for enhancing the comprehensive competitiveness and accelerating the urban economic and social development in a harmonious and rapid way. "In the process of building "Innovative and Harmonious Wuhan", a complete and effective IPR protection system is an important buttresses, and will undoubtedly play a more important role. SIPO always attaches great importance to Wuhan's IP work, meanwhile we also hope the Wuhan IP bureau would further strengthen the IP work and fully carry out the strategy building a model IPR protection city", Tian added.
