Upon the invitation of Hong Kong Special Administration Region (SAR) government and Macao SAR government, Mr. Tian Lipu, the commissioner of SIPO, paid a visit to Hong Kong and Macao recently.
During his stay in Hong Kong, Mr. Tian Lipu visited the Intellectual Property Department (IPD) of Hong Kong SAR, Mr. Stephen R. Selby, the director-general of IPD and IPD senior officials gave brief introduction of the IP development in Hong Kong, and the two parties achieved wide consensus on strengthening the personnel exchange and IPR knowledge publicity. Accompanied by Mr. Selby, Mr. Tian inspected the patent search and registration work in IPD. In addition, Mr. Tian met with Ms. Fan Hsu Lai-tai, the President of Legislative Council of Hong Kong SAR, Ms. Law Fen Chiu-fun, the ICAC Commissioner of Hong Kong SAR, Mr. Lau Siu-kai, the Head of Central Policy Unit, Mr. Joseph W. P. Wong, the Secretary of Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau, Mr. Frederick Lam, the Deputy Executive Director of HK Trade and Development Council, Mr. Timothy Tong Hin Ming, the commissioner of Hong Kong Customs and Excise, Mr. Stephen Lam Sui-lung, Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr. Anthony S K Wong, the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Mr. LAM Kwong-siu, the Vice Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, as well as the senior officials from the Department of Justice, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau, the Hong Kong Invention Association, the Hong Kong IP Society. In addition, the commissioner also visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
During his visit in Macao, Mr. Tian met with Mr. Francis Tam Pak Yuen, Secretary for Economy and Finance Department, and during his talk with Mr. Su Tianping, the Director-General of Economic Services, the two parties gave the introduction of the latest information in IP field, retrospect their cooperation in recent years and discussed the future cooperation. The talk brought wide consensus to the two parties.
During his six-day visit to the two regions, Mr. Tian had been given extensive information of socioeconomic development, administration management, as well as of IP progress in the two regions, and then introduced the development of IP in the mainland, particularly the concerns from the central government and top leaders to IP work. Tian's visit, under the framework of the basic law and "one country, two systems", deepened the communication and understanding between SIPO and the two regional governments, strengthened the cooperation between the central government and the Hong Kong and Macao regional governments in IP field.
