Mr. Zhang Qin Met Chengdu Officials

 

Recently, Mr, Zhang Qin deputy commissioner of SIPO, accompanied by Mr. Ma Weiye, director of SIPO Coordination Department, met  Mr. Zhu Zhihong, deputy mayor of Chengdu for the progress of the city in IP issues. Mr. Huang Feng , commissioner of IP Bureau of Sichuan Proince, Mr. Zheng Heping, the deputy general secretary of Chengdu government, Mr. Chen Haiyuan, director of IP Administration of Chengdu and Mr. Chen Xiaobin, deputy director of Chengdu IP Administration, attended the meeting.

 

During the meeting, on behalf of Chengdu government, Mr. Zhu Zhihong expressed gratitude to SIPO for its support to Chengdu's IP development over the past years, especially Chengdu's efforts in building State IP demonstration city in IP field since April 2005.. According to Mr. Zhu, the city government has attached great importance to IP development in Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province. Over the years, Chengdu government regarded constructing State IP demonstration city as an great opportunity in constructing system of IP management and IP services in combination with the commonweal and market economy, building IP administration, creation and protection. In the process, Chengdu felt that the construction of IP demonstration city provided powerful support to achieve new leaping-over, to develop modern agriculture, modern service industry and metropolitan management, as well as the most excellent livable environment and the most competitive city in mid-west of China. In 2006, patent application reached 9,024 in Chengdu with 5,133 approved, 108.7% and 94.7% respectively higher than the period before the establishment of IP demonstration city in 2005. Trademark application and registration were as much as 7,103, 13.6% increase over the same period, the highest record in west part of China. These also enabled Chengdu jumped from the 27th in 2002 to the ninth among 50 cities across the country, and the city's image and the general competitiveness were also greatly improved.

 

Mr. Zhang Qin said to his guests that he felt quite positive for the outstanding achievements in Chengdu in recent years because of its good IP basis, effective instructions from provincial government of Sichuan province as well as the great attention from Chengdu government. A lot of recommendable experience are quite valuable and will be expanded to other cities. SIPO will further support the Chengdu and hoped that under the guidance of provincial IP bureau and city government, the Chengdu IP Administration should make further progress in probing elaborately and promoting the economic and social development as well as constructing the innovative country.

 

At the meeting, both sides exchanged ideas and opinions on related issue of acceptance of constructing IP demonstration city.
