A few days ago SIPO commissioner Tian Lipu had a meeting with the Permanent Secretary Ms. Chan Lai Fung of the Singaporean Ministry of Lawand Ms. Liew Woon Yin, director-general of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).

This is the first time for Ms. Chan Lai Fung to visit China as executive secretary of the Singaporean Ministry of Law. During the meeting both sides have notified each other of the latest progress of their respective work and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation such as joint sponsorship of 2007 China-Singapore "Intellectual Property Symposium", establishment of an IP service platform, reciprocal visits and promotion of cooperation between China IP Training Center and Singapore IP Academy (IPA). Ms. Chan Lai Fung  expressed the idea that the Singaporean Ministry of Law as the higher authority of the IPOS would actively dedicate its effort to bilateral cooperation with China's SIPO, and, at the same time, continue to support China's cooperation with the ASEAN as a whole in the area of intellectual property. Tian Lipu also expressed the willingness of the SIPO to actively promote cooperation with member countries of the ASEAN including Singapore and deepen communication and understanding between both Chinese and Singaporean sides in respect of intellectual property. Both sides have further exchanged views on the work of the WIPO Singapore Office.

Intellectual property cooperation between IP offices of China and Singapore was officially included in August 2006 in the framework of JCBC, which has upgraded their cooperation to the general level of diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, and made IP cooperation between both sides enter a new period of development.
