Wu Yi Attending China High-level Forum on Intellectual Property Rights Protection 2007

At 9 am April 24, China High-level Forum on Intellectual Property Rights Protection 2007 was open in Beijing with the highlight on IPR Protection and Enterprises Competition. Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi attended the opening ceremony and gave her presentation.

Wu pointed out that China has been sticking and attaching a high attention to IPR protection, and has adopted a series of effective measures in IPR protection, and thus has achieved a well-known progress in IPR protection. Years ago, China began to adopt a scientific outlook of development, and from this point of view and for building an innovative country, IPR protection has become a national strategy. Therefore, China has carried out a series of measures and made great effort in this field. "What China has invested, has done and achieved in the past years in IPR protection is unprecedented," Wu said.

"Today, when the economic globalization becomes more popular, IPR protection has turned to be a world-wide topic, and all countries should work together in this field with a win-win principle," Wu said, "China will continue its promised duty in IPR protection, and is willing to enforce exchange and cooperation with all countries and international organizations to promote our IPR protection and progress in science and technology."

According to the Vice Premier, China still has a long way to go in IPR protection and lot of work to do, such as relatively fewer self-innovation, weak competitive capacity, more and more IPR disputes, serious IPR infringement and privacy, lower cost in infringement but higher in safeguarding IPR, weak law enforcement ability, some wrong understandings to IPR, and unpopular public consciousness in IPR. "Therefore, Chinese government will be more determined to adopt more effective measures, further IPR law enforcement and constantly enhance IPR protection, "Wu added.
