Speech by Commissioner Tian Lipu on the 7th World IP Day

 

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen!

Today, April 26 2007, marks the 7th World Intellectual Property Day, a day all IP professionals, inventors and creators celebrate.  I wish to take this opportunity to extend warm greetings to you all on behalf of the State Intellectual Property Office. And welcome to the SIPO Open Day!

SIPO is a public administration institution under direct leadership of the State Council, aiming to serve inventors, patent holders and the general public.  Built as a functional agency of China's IP system, SIPO serves to nurture independent innovation to promote socio-economic development as its key responsibility.

The theme this year is encouraging creativity.  Creativity should be summoned across all sectors in order to generate substantial public benefits for overall advancement of the society.  This consists with the objective China's IP system aims to achieve and this year's IP culture of respecting innovation and Intellectual Property.

For the Open Day, arrangements were made for site visits, consultation, seminars and online interview, etc., as efforts to provide improved public service for the creators and inventors, and ultimately for the building of an innovative country.  We hope to work together with all of you, with a positive attitude and an open mind, to strive for the prosperity and strength of our nation.
