Since WIPO began to provide international patent on-line application service from May 1st this year, SIP0 had received 11 PCT applications on line. The new system enables applicants in China to enjoy a quick, easy and flexible service, and will have legal protection in 137 countries.

According to a report released by WIPO in 2006, China's international patent application in 2005 and 2006 had increased some 60 percent, and in term of international patent, China had become the fourth largest country. Therefore, WIPO received China in its electronic patent system.

The report says that applications from China, Japan, Korea, America and Europe take more than three fourth of the whole world.
