The 14th BIO International Convention (BIO 2007 International Convention) was held lately in Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC), U.S.A., and China's SIPO representatives attended the convention.
SIPO representative addressed the convention on the Development of Japan Patent Office (JPO), European Patent Office (EPO), SIPO and US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) (IP/Legal Track), focusing on the development of IPR protection of China in biotechnologies; representatives of USPTO, EPO' s branch office in Netherlands and JPO offered their insights on biotech examination standards. SIPO' s representatives gave detailed answers to questions posed by bio-technicians and patent agents from Europe, the US, Canada and Japan, such as when would China submit its experiment data on inventions' effect, what would be the requirements, and why is China's IPR protection inadequate compared with other countries, etc.,
During the Convention, the joint delegation of EPO, the European Commission, European Medicines Agency (EMEA) expressed the hope to join up with SIPO to attend the China-Europe Biotech Partnering Event in Guangzhou next year.
BIO represents over 1,100 biotechnology companies, academies, national biotech centers and organizations from the US and other 31 countries. The annual BIO convention consists of two parts, namely, panel forums and exhibitions. This year' s event, themed "New Ideas. Bold Ventures. Global Benefits", has attracted more than 19,000 experts and over 1,700 biotech companies globally. The 2008 BIO International Convention will be held in July in San Diego, U.S.A.
