A Business Communication Meeting for Foreign Institutions Stationed in China is Held by SIPO

 

Recently, a business communication meeting was held by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in Beijing.  This is the second meeting since the first which was held last year.  Its objectives were to increase the transparency of the work of SIPO and to know more about the opinions and suggestions for SIPO's work from all the circles of the society, so as to better improve various working mechanisms, raise work efficiency and provide higher quality service for the Chinese and foreign applicants.

 

In the meeting, brief accounts were given on the amendment of China's Patent Law, the progress of patent examination affairs and the administrative law enforcement for patent protection by Lu Guoliang, Director of the International Cooperation Department, Song Jianhua, Deputy-director of the Legal Affairs Department, Cao Donggen, Deputy-director of the Coordination and Administration Department, Mao Jinsheng, Deputy-director of the Planning and Development Department and Zhang Maoyu, Deputy-director of Examination  Affairs Administration Department of the SIPO respectively.  Issues of concern were raised by the participants.  Heated discussions were held on the 3rd Amendment of the Patent Law.  And the participants expressed their high appreciation for the honest, open and service-oriented attitudes of SIPO. More than 50 representatives from the foreign institutions including: US Embassy, Thai Embassy, U.S. Chamber of Commerce in China, EU Chamber of Commerce in China, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), HP, IBM, Nissan, Panasonic, and US Eli Lilly and Company attended the meeting.

 

After the meeting, the EU Chamber of Commerce in China wrote a special letter to the International Department of SIPO, expressing its appreciation and saying that this kind of interaction enhanced the enterprises' understanding of the work of SIPO, created a new communication channel for the two sides and enabled the relevant institutions to voice their problems and get the answers right away.
