Yang Tiejun Led a Delegation to Africa

 

Recently, Yang Tiejun, Deputy Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) led a 7-member delegation and visited Egypt and South Africa.  The delegation consisted of the relevant personnel from the General Office of the State Council, the State Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the State Intellectual Property Office.  The visit was a complete success.

 

Egypt and South Africa are the most representative countries in Africa in the field of intellectual property.  This visit is of important significance to the promotion of intellectual property cooperation between China and Africa.  The delegation visited the Patent Office under the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, the South African Company and Intellectual Property Registration (CIPRO), the South African H G Intellectual Property Law Firm and carried out extensive and in-depth interflow with the above-mentioned institutions.  Focus was also laid on the study of the financial system and the patent charge mechanism.  On behalf of SIPO, Yang held discussions with the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and amendments were made on the Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (Draft). The relevant institutions of Egypt and South Africa showed great concern and interest in the building and development of the SIPO.  They also expressed their strong aspiration for cooperation.

 

The Chinese embassies in Egypt and South Africa also attached high importance to SIPO's visit.  They gave support to the delegation in many ways and were active in promoting the bilateral cooperation. During the visit, the Chinese Counselor with rank of Minister to Egypt received the delegation members in the Chinese Embassy and also held a working meeting with Yang, leader of the delegation.  The Chinese Ambassador to South Africa also met with the visiting delegation.

 

Through this delegation's visit, the huge achievements made by China's intellectual property undertaking was publicized.  This visit has enhanced mutual-understanding and trust and paved the foundation for the further development of China―African cooperation.  It will also play an active role in enlarging the international image of SIPO and pushing forward the building of a strong SIPO.
