Guangdong and Hong Kong will Enhance the Relevant Administration Work on Intellectual Property of the Olympic Games

It was learned from the 6th meeting of the Guangdong and Hong Kong Specific Responsibility Group for the Protection of Intellectual Property held in Guangzhou on July 2, 2007, that the Guangdong and Hong Kong intellectual property enforcement organs will enhance the relevant administration work on intellectual property with the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

According to the leaders of the delegation of the two parties, Guangdong and Hong Kong have decided to implement the cooperation plan for the next stage. The intellectual property administration and law enforcement organs of the two places will further improve the intellectual property cooperation and settlement mechanism, intensify the efforts on cracking down trans-border intellectual property infringement, and also develop new projects, e.g., sponsoring the Guangdong and Hong Kong forum on innovation industry and intellectual property, establishing the bilateral trademark protecting information reporting and investigating system and enhancing the administration work on intellectual property with the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

As the Beijing Olympic Games is gradually approaching, infringement acts on Olympic advertisement trademarks emerged in some places. As disclosed by He Jikai, the relevant person-in-charge of the Copyright and Trademark Survey Section of the Hong Kong Customs and Exercise, the Hong Kong Customs and Exercise has started its supervision on the development of the market at an early date, protected the franchised products of the Olympic Games and carried out protection for intellectual property through efforts from three aspects: One, putting on record the data of the registered trademark under protection; Two, enhancing the training of the law enforcers of the Customs; and unfolding the internal training, targeting at differentiating counterfeit and shoddy trademarks; Three, enhancing intelligence work in terms of law enforcement. He said that small quantities of pirated-edition of the Olympic Games' products were discovered two month ago in Hong Kong and "We immediately "mop out" this kind of products once they emerged in the market." As the Beijing Olympic Games is approaching, it is plausible that more fake products will emerge in Hong Kong. In this regard, the Hong Kong Customs and Exercise has made corresponding readjustment, so that the work on supervision and control of entry and exit will be strengthened.
