Tian Lipu talks with Mrs. Puangrat Asavapisit, the new Director-General of the Intellectual Property Department of Thailand
Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of China Tian Lipu met with Mrs. Puangrat Asavapisit, the new Director-General of the Intellectual Property Department of Thailand, on July 17. Both sides introduced the progresses newly made in IP realm, exchanged views on some important international IP affairs and reached consensus in further strengthening their cooperation.
Tian expressed his warm welcome to Asavapisit and her delegation's visit to China. According to him, Thailand is an important member of ASEAN and has sound cooperation relations with SIPO in recent years. After the two countries signed cooperation plans in 2005, a series of effective cooperation were launched in human resource development, information exchanges and IP protection in a win-win manner. While briefing the latest number of Thai enterprises' patent applications in China, Tian said, "A total of 20 patent applications and 23 patent authorizations were filed by Thai enterprises in China in the first half this year. The growth of patent authorizations is faster than the previous years." He added that the acceleration of patent checkup process can help strengthen economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
Asavaposit spoke highly of the outstanding achievements the SIPO had made in recent years. She expressed her appreciation for China's supports to Thailand in the international IP affairs and indicated her hope of continuing to expand cooperation channels and further deepening bilateral cooperation. Meanwhile, Tian also expressed his gratitude for Thailand's efforts in promoting the signing of IP cooperation memos between China and ASEAN countries.
It is Asavapisit's first visit to China after she became the Director-General of the Intellectual Property Department of Thailand and her visit will surely play positive roles in further promoting IP cooperation between China and Thailand and ASEAN countries.
