Led by Zhang Qin, Deputy Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), a delegation of the Patent Protection Association of China (PPAC) recently went to Europe and visited German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), European Patent Office (EPO), BASF, Bosch Group, Mercedes-Benz, BMW Group, Linde Group, Max Planck Institute, Kuhnen & Wacker Intellectual Property Law Firm and European Association of Industrial Property Protection, achieving outstanding results.

 

While talking to his counterpart at DPMA, Zhang inquired about the detailed procedures of patent and trademark handling and grant, case examination and patent information services of the office, and expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between China and Germany in IP realm, especially in patent sector. Officials from DPMA recalled the experience when they visit China's Bao Steel in Shanghai.

 

Zhang also met Manuel Desantes, Vice President of the EPO and highly appreciated the friendly cooperation and exchanges between SIPO and EPO in recent years. Both sides introduced the latest achievements they made in IP realm in a pragmatic manner, and exchanged views on how to strengthen bilateral cooperation, increase high-level dialogues, promote expert exchange visits and intensify staff trainings. Zhang hoped to further strengthening the cooperation between the two offices in terms of IP talent training and patent management.

 

Zhang and his party also visited German enterprises, institutes and IP agents to know more about their advanced experiences and practices in IP protection and inquired about their IP management.

 

Zhang's visit is of great importance in strengthening Sino-European and Sino-German cooperation and exchanges in IP realm for governmental departments, social organizations and enterprises, learning Europe's advanced IP management modes and concepts, promoting the establishment, improvement and coordinative development of Chinese enterprises' IP system.
