Tian Lipu met his Vietnamese counterpart
On August 20, Tian Lipu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) met Tran Viet Hung, the visiting Director General of the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP) of Vietnam and his party. The two offices exchanged views on the cooperation and exchanges in IP realm.
Tian Lipu expressed his welcome to Tran Viet Hung and his party, pointing out that Vietnam is China's friendly neighbor with frequent high level exchange visits and close economic ties in recent years. In May, Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet visited China, further strengthening bilateral relations. Under the backdrop, the IP cooperation between the two countries will surely turn a new page.

Tran Viet Hung expressed his gratitude to SIPO's arrangement the meeting, saying that in recent years, patent application in Vietnam grows at an annual rate of 20 to 30 percent. In 2006, Vietnam issued Intellectual Property Law, but the country is still facing many problems in law implementation and personnel training. The main goal for NOIP's visit is to learn from SIPO's experience and strengthen cooperation between the two offices.

The two leaders introduced to each other the general information of their respective offices. Statistics show that Vietnamese enterprises totally filed eight patent applications in China and Chinese enterprises filed 82 patent applications in Vietnam. Tian Lipu pointed out that the problems faced by NOIP related to examination capacity and law enforcement are also challenges of SIPO. In this regard, the bilateral cooperation between the two offices is important, which can not only promote the development in economic and trading sectors in both countries, but also improve IP cooperation in the international stage.
During the meeting, the two offices reached a consensus on high-level exchanges and visits, personnel training, seminar holding and IP information exchange and cooperation.
