Yang Tiejun Met a Delegation From the Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong SAR

 

 

On the morning of August 22, Yang Tiejun, Deputy Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), met Frederick Ma Si-hang, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and his party. Both parties introduced to each other their respective works in IP protection and exchanged views on further bilateral cooperation in friendly atmosphere.

 

Yang expressed his welcome to Ma and his party and briefed on the SIPO’s organizational structure and functions. He spoke highly of the fact that the Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong SAR strengthened its communications with SIPO soon after it was established, noting this would help promote the IP works of Hong Kong. Currently, the volume of patent applications handled by China increased from No.4 to No.3 worldwide, which not only indicates China’s sound environment for IP protection and patent application, increasing western developed countries’ confidence in applying for Chinese patents, but also shows China’s progresses in IP protection and independent innovation.

For his part, Ma expressed his appreciation for the meeting and Yang’s introduction on the basic information of SIPO. He briefly introduced the works of his Commerce and Economic Development, which includes trade, science and technology, telecommunications and tourism. Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department is its subordination. Ma highly appreciated China’s achievements in IP sector, saying that IP is a very important international topic and it is very important for Hong Kong to strengthen its cooperation and exchanges with the mainland. Hong Kong will actively coordinate with various departments of the mainland in IP sector to promote China’s economic development.
