China's First Report on Non-Service Patents Issued

 

Recently, the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) issued China's first systematic analyzing report on the country's non-service inventions. On the basis of abundant statistics, the report introduces the general situation and information on the development and changes of China's non-service patent, and puts forward pertinent suggestions.

 

According to the report, entitled Analysis on China's Non-Service Patent Application and Grant, China's non-service patent application occupies a very important position during the more than 20 years history of the country's patent development. By the end of June, SIPO totally handled 1.837071 million non-service patent applications of invention, utility model and design, 98.5 percent of which were from domestic market. Service patent application formed the major part of the domestic patents of invention while patents of utility model and design were mainly applied through non-service patent applications. Most of the patents from the overseas were applied through service application.

 

The report says during the more than two decades, the volume of domestic non-service patent application went up annually. On the basis of annual growth rates, the development of the non-service patent application can be divided into three stages of primary rise from 1985 to 1991, stable development from 1992 to 1999 and rapid growth from 2000 to 2006.

 

The report notes that in the past 20 years, the volume of domestic patent grant rose gradually and non-service patent grant also increased correspondingly. Of all the granted domestic patents of invention, utility model and design, non-service applications accounts for one third, two thirds and one half respectively.
