Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao made a special address at the plenary session of the World Economic Forum's inaugural Annual Meeting of the New Champions New Champions, which was held on September 6, pointing out that China will accelerate the changing of the pattern of economic development. Measures will be taken to promote the industrial structure optimization and upgrade, make the improvement of independent innovation capacity the core link during the process of changing the pattern of economic development in a pragmatic manner, and strengthen IPR protection to fully increase China's hi-tech and industrial levels.

 

Wen noted that in general, China's current economic development situation is satisfying with continuous and rapid national economy growth, stable financial operation, steady development of foreign trade and increasing improvement of the people's life. Meanwhile, some unstable, disharmonious, unbalanced and unsustainable problems still exist in China's economic development, which are mainly caused by faster economic growth, sharp structural contradiction, crude development pattern with heavy resource and environment costs, increasing pressures caused by price soaring and the fact that the systematic obstacles are not fundamentally eradicated. In order to resolve these problems, China will deepen its implementation of scientific development concept, innovate new development pattern and embark on the people-oriented road of all-round sustainable development.

 

Wen pointed out that China will accelerate the changing of the pattern of economic development. Measures will be taken to promote the industrial structure adjustments to improve the quality and efficiency of economic development. This is an urgent task for China. China will follow the path of a new type of industrialization to promote industrial structure optimization and upgrade and make the improvement of independent innovation capacity the core link during the process of changing the pattern of economic development in a pragmatic manner. By strengthening IP protection, China will fully improve its hi-tech and industrial levels. Chinese Government attaches great importance to its product quality and food safety and is improving its legal system and quality criteria system to strengthen its quality supervision and resolve the existing problems. Improve product quality and food security are the common tasks for the world community. China would like to make joint efforts with the rest of the world in this regard.

 

Wen also introduced the six aspects of the work China will do this year. Starting from 1971, the World Economic Forum, which is also known for Davos Forum, has a history of 36 years. Starting this year, the forum will hold summer meeting annually in China and China's economic development is an important topic for this year's meeting. This event shows that China's economic development is attracting the world attentions and the World Economic Forum is strengthening its cooperation with China.
