On the afternoon of September 19, He Hua, Deputy Commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), met a group headed by Danny Huntington, Chairman of Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle (FICPI). The two parties deeply discussed issues related to IP field, and also made constructive ideas for future cooperation.

He Hua expressed his welcome to Danny Huntington’s party and briefed on the general situation of SIPO. He stressed that, although it is not so long since IP system was developed in China, the government has the determination in strengthening IP protection, and has achieved remarkable progress in legislation and law enforcement. In recent years, IPR protection has promoted the adjustment of industry construction and stable economic growth.

Mr. He noted that, SIPO has also taken IP publicity as one of the major duties. On IPR Day each year, various activities are organized all over the country, including publicizing IP protection ideas and knowledge. In this way, China has formed a sound atmosphere for IP respect and protection. In the past few years, for example, the patent applications in SIPO have increased at an annual rate of 20%, representing a continuous enhancement of the public awareness in IPR protection.

Huntington, after expressing his appreciation for Mr. He’s hospitality, gave his congratulation to SIPO for its achievements. He said FICPI would like to cooperate with SIPO and to give it support in IP sector according to Chinese situation since China became its member last year.

During the meeting, they had a frank and detailed conversation on issues such as examiner training, patent search, as well as traditional IP protection, etc.

FICPI, headquartered in Paris, France, was established in 1906. It is an exclusive international non-political organization consisted of civilian certified lawyers in IP field from more than 80 countries
