Tian Lipu Attended the Opening Ceremony of the Training Class for IP Judges

A training class for IP judges from China local courts was open on November 5 in Beijing. More than 60 IP judges from thirty-seven courts of eight provinces and municipalities attended it. Tian Lipu, Commissioner of SIPO, and Cao Jianmin, Vice-President of the Supreme People's Court, gave their speeches to the trainees at the opening ceremony.

Mr. Tian pointed out that with the development of science and technology and economic growth, applications of patent and trademark registration become increasingly more. IP cases, as a result of the increase, also come to augment. "Much more complicated than normal cases, IP cases are somewhat challenging and even quite different from one to another. What's more, some of them would have wide social or international impact," Mr. Tian noted, "So IP judges should devote to the job with your intelligence, sense of responsibility and correct consciousness, and ensure each case ironclad."

Mr. Tian also expected all IP judges to upgrade their qualification and become more professional, and promoted the development of China IP and the full implementation of China's IP strategy by working hard.

Mr. Cao said that IP judicial work should effectively safeguard the social and economic development. The training for IP judges serves to fostering an IP judge team of high qualification and professional capabilities. "This training program is held especially for JP judges from local courts, it is quite necessary and timely," Mr. Cao added. He hoped the trainees would take the opportunity to exchange experience, to study the problems they had in work, and improve their professional ability.

This training class, the first term in a series of training programs in coming years, was jointly sponsored by the Trial Tribunal on Intellectual Property of the Supreme People's Court and China IP Training Center to serve the requirements of China National IP Strategy and the IP judges.

Experts from SIPO and the Trial Tribunal on Intellectual Property of the Supreme People's Court were invited to talk about national IP development strategy, problems in IP case and trademark case judgment as well as other topics. Except of these lectures, case study, on-site study at Beijing Haidian District Court to the litigation procedures of IP, trademark, technology contract and copyright, will be included in the program.

In addition, some discussion among the trainees will be organized, so that they can exchange ideas and experience in trail practices.

The launch of the training project is of positive significance for improving China IP case judgment, training highly qualified IP judges and thus, promoting China's IP work.
