Remarkable Progress in Patent Application and Grant in China in 2007

 

According to information released by SIPO, in 2007 the Office had accepted 694,153 patent applications, 21.1 percent more than the previous year, and granted 351,872 patents, 31.3 percent more. In the year, three kinds of patent applications had kept on growing, and the growth rate of grants to Chinese patent applicants was much higher than to the overseas.

 

Among the three kinds of patent applications, 586,734 were from China, 107,419 from overseas; invention patent application were 245,161, utility models were 181,324, while design patent application 267,668. Service applications were 380,260, non-service were 313,893.

 

Among the granted three kinds of patents, 301,632 were to applicants from China, 50,150 to overseas; 67,948 were invention patents, 150,036 were utility model and 133,798 design; 183,340 were service patents, 169,442 were non-service.

 

In 2007, patent application in China had following characteristics:

-- Three-kind patent applications in China had kept on growing, but utility model and design applications still took a majority;
-- Invention patent applications mostly came from China, and the growth rate of invention patent from China was higher than those from overseas;
-- Service patent applications from China had further increased;
-- Enterprises had taken more important role in patent application.

 

In 2007, patent grant in China had following two specialties:
-- Grants to three-kind patents continued to dramatically increase;
-- Grants to invention patents from China grew 17 percent more than that from the overseas, and the gap between from China and overseas had been further narrowed in 2007.
