In the afternoon of January 9, 2008, Suzhou city government held a ceremony to celebrate the official founding of Suzhou City IP Administration. Mr. Wang Rong, Secretary of Suzhou CPC Committee as well as other senior officials of city government, Mr. Xing Shengcai, Deputy Commissioner of SIPO, Mr. Zhu Yu, director of Jiangsu Provincial IP Administration, attended the ceremony.

 

Suzhou, as a candidate city of National IP Model City, and approved by Jiangzu Provincial Government in November 2003, takes the lead in whole province to set up its IP administration then within Suzhou City Bureau of Science and Technology, and has established a basically complete IP administration system since then.

 

In recent years, Suzhou’s economy has experienced an important strategic transformation, so in April 2007, Suzhou city government began to study the possibility to set up an independent IP administration. In November 2007, Jiangsu Provincial Government approved the city government’s application, and thus Suzhou turns to be the second city in China to have an independent and complete IP administration after Shenzhen city in Guangdong Province.
